Reimagine climate-resilient agriculture and landscapes

MANAN 2026 (Multistakeholder Forum for Agriculture, Nature, and Net Zero Transition), a two-day multistakeholder conference focused on building climate-resilient farms and landscapes, concluded in Bhopal with a strong call to move beyond fragmented interventions and embed resilience into agricultural systems, markets, and institutions.

The conference was organised by the Regenerative Production Landscape Collaborative (RPLC) and co-convened with the Government of Madhya Pradesh, with IDH serving as the Knowledge Partner. MANAN 2026 brought together policymakers, companies, financiers, civil society organisations, multilaterals, researchers, and practitioners to examine how climate resilience can be operationalised at scale for smallholder farmers and rural communities.

Across plenary discussions and thematic panels, participants reflected on the rapidly evolving climate risks facing Indian agriculture – from groundwater depletion to rising heat stress and land degradation – while acknowledging that many existing responses continue to operate in silos.

Speaking on the intent and outcomes of the conference, Vikramjeet Sharma, Program Lead – RPLC (India), said, “MANAN 2026 reinforced a shared recognition that climate resilience in agriculture cannot be delivered through isolated pilots or sector-by-sector approaches. The conversations over these two days highlighted the urgency of integrating policy, markets, finance, and on-ground practice to build resilient livelihoods and landscapes. The focus now must shift to translating this collective understanding into coordinated action at scale.”

A key theme emerging from MANAN 2026 was the need to align climate ambition with on-ground realities – whether in scaling regenerative and climate-resilient production systems, advancing decent work in global supply chains, strengthening gender equity across value chains, or restoring degraded landscapes through integrated, community-led approaches.

Emphasising the importance of partnerships and farmer-centric systems, Nishant Warwade, Secretary – Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh, said, “Farmer welfare must remain at the centre of our efforts. Climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture requires strong partnerships across government, civil society, and the private sector. Madhya Pradesh’s digital initiatives like AgriStack are connecting markets directly to farmers while meeting global standards such as EUDR.  Going forward, responsible use of data and technology will be key to boosting productivity, improving post-harvest systems, and empowering women in agriculture. Platforms like MANAN demonstrate how collaboration can translate ideas into action at scale.”

Across the two days, discussions at MANAN 2026 focused on aligning climate ambition with real-world outcomes across agriculture and allied value chains. Participants highlighted the need to move from fragmented pilots to integrated approaches that strengthen farmer livelihoods, improve land productivity, advance sustainable and regenerative practices, and restore natural capital. Conversations also emphasised the importance of inclusive growth – ensuring women’s participation translates into economic opportunity – alongside stronger traceability, digitisation, and responsible use of technology to meet emerging market and regulatory expectations. A clear consensus emerged on the value of partnerships in translating shared knowledge into scalable action.

Participants underscored the importance of sustained collaboration beyond the conference, with MANAN 2026 serving as a platform to connect policy dialogue with implementation, finance, and market action. The outcomes of the conference are expected to inform future partnerships, state-level initiatives, and value-chain strategies aimed at strengthening climate resilience in Indian agriculture.
