Driving sustainability through living income

Cocoa farming is one of the major causes of forest degradation in West Africa. Efforts to make the cocoa sector sustainable at a social, environmental and economic level will not be attainable unless farmers earn at least a living income.

To this end, we advocate shared responsibility across the entire supply chain. Convening public-private commitments to create an enabling environment, ensure more sustainable procurement practices, and accelerate investments in the sourcing of sustainable cocoa.

Through our Roadmap on Living Income we further progress solutions and guide investments to create more value for producers, protect the environment, and ensure traceability and data transparency.

Creating positive impact for people, planet and progress

Together with our partners, we’re working to develop sustainable business models, create positive on-the-ground impact and improve sector governance in key cocoa-producing countries.

My advice to all cocoa stakeholders: start taking steps! We started small with only 102 farmers and one bar. Today, thanks to this pilot, Colruyt Group has committed to paying the Living Income Reference Price (LIRP) for all Boni chocolate tablets.
