Financing the transition to more inclusive and sustainable livestock farming in Brazil

The Cria Fund is an innovative financial mechanism designed to facilitate access to credit and accelerate the sustainable transition of livestock farming among small and medium-sized producers in the Amazon region of Brazil. The Fund combines livestock-compatible financing, digital technical assistance, and market access, bridging the gaps between land, data, and capital.

Structured by IDH in partnership with the financial manager Violet, the Fund has ambitious goals for 2030: 50 million USD, 1,000 farmers served, and 150,000 hectares covered by sustainable practices.

With an initial funding round of 10 million USD, the Fund will serve 250 farmers, covering 12,000 hectares.

The Cria Fund’s proposal is to channel resources toward the restoration of degraded pastures and the transition to regenerative, low-carbon production systems. In doing so, it expands the results aligned with the Grren Pathway Program, coordinated by Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA).
