Our innovative investment funds make investing in rural communities and threatened landscapes commercially attractive, delivering returns on investment and real sustainable development.

Our goal is to develop innovative financial instruments that catalyse investments in smallholder farmer- and agri SME-based business models to facilitate thriving businesses and rural communities and to protect the environment.

We typically focus on managing financial instruments and structures that are not offered or insufficiently available in the market. As we increase our offering of funds and blended finance, we will crowd in more commercial investors – demonstrating that creating impact in the agricultural sector can deliver financial returns.

More than just a fund manager

Our deep understanding of agri value chains and extensive partner network put us in a unique position as fund managers – leveraging both field-level insights and public sector financial support.

By actively engaging with rural communities, agri SMEs and other value chain actors investees we identify and develop impactful investment opportunities. We also consult with our investees on impact, ESG and investment-related topics – with the possibility of Technical Assistance funding for capacity development. Sharing lessons learned and disseminating insights in the market to trigger further investments in the agri sector.

IDH Farmfit Fund

A €100M blended finance fund that takes on the highest risk positions to catalyse commercial capital and demonstrate the viability of smallholder-related finance, benefiting over 3 million farmers.

Launched in January 2020, the Farmfit Fund is the world’s largest public-private impact initiative for smallholders. It addresses the needs of farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, aiming to increase their income. The fund’s innovative financing model makes investments in smallholder farmers attractive by de-risking investments and helping drive sustainable impact by lowering risks and costs for both farmers and investors.
