Addressing the root causes of floriculture’s social and environmental challenges

The fast expansion of the floriculture sector has led to economic growth in production countries. But behind the roses are many thorns, from poor working conditions and low wages to agrochemical use, lack of water stewardship and high CO2 emissions.

To address these pressing sustainability issues, we supported the establishment of the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI), a multi-stakeholder platform that unites key global players in a pre-competitive coalition.

Centred around three pillars – responsible production and trade, responsible conduct and integrated reporting – the initiative is working to address living wage gaps and carbon emissions with the aim for 100% of volumes to be responsibly produced and traded by 2025.

Creating positive impact for people, planet and progress

Together with our partners, we’re working to develop sustainable business models, create positive on-the-ground impact and improve sector governance in key flower-producing countries.

Sustainability is an essential part of business, and the FSI 2025 strategy contains the components which are needed to let the sector become a solution to the current challenges.
