IDH and GIZ Partner to Drive Renewable Energy Adoption in Textile & Manufacturing
IDH's In Sustainable Textile and Apparel Parks (INSTEP) Program and the Project Development Programme (PDP), implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, have joined forces to accelerate the transition to renewable energy within industrial parks and factories in Kenya and Vietnam. PDP, under the German Energy Solutions Initiative, is mandated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).
The collaboration between INSTEP and PDP marks an important step towards fostering sustainable practices and reducing the environmental footprint of textile and apparel production. By combining our expertise and resources, we will leverage economies of scale and work towards more efficient use of energy in the textile manufacturing sector.
PDP brings extensive technical knowledge and experience in promoting climate-friendly energy solutions in developing and emerging economies. Through its standardized project development process, PDP facilitates the deployment of renewable energy technologies, with a particular emphasis on rooftop solar installations. By extending its expertise to support the development of solar projects within INSTEP industrial parks and factories, PDP aims to catalyse the adoption of clean energy practices within the textile and apparel sector.
IDH’s INSTEP Program aims to drive the sustainable production of textiles and apparel at the industrial park level. This enables the program to achieve scaled and systemic impact across multiple factories and park facilities. Through coordination with industrial park stakeholders and the integration of PDP’s technical assistance, INSTEP will facilitate the transition to renewable energy within its network of partner parks and factories in Vietnam and Kenya.
Through this collaboration, INSTEP and PDP aim to transform the energy landscape of the textile and apparel sector, paving the way for a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable future.
